Amador STARS currently schedules two vans for patients going to out-of-town radiation treatments.
The "Sacramento" van goes to between one and four cancer centers in the Sacramento and Rancho Cordova areas and the “Stockton/Lodi” van goes to
between one and three cancer centers in the Lodi and Stockton areas, five days a week. The vans are owned, maintained, insured and
scheduled by the Amador STARS.
Before you start to drive the vans you will have an orientation meeting which will include review of the Amador STARS Policies,
Procedures and Guidelines. All required paperwork will need to be completed and returned to the Amador STARS office prior to
starting as a driver.
Prior to your start date you will need to provide the Amador STARS office with the following:
- A recent DMV record printout. You may obtain these from your local DMV office.
There will be a fee of $5.00 for the printout.
- A copy of your driver’s license and insurance card.
This may be done at the Amador STARS office.
- Complete the “Volunteer Driver Application Form” and other required forms
(available from the STARS office)
Please either stop by the office at 12120 Industry Blvd, Suite 36 in Jackson or mail the above requirements to:
Amador STARS
P.O. Box 208
Jackson, CA 95642
After your required paperwork and DMV printout are turned in, the Amador STARS Office will schedule you to go on a morning and
an afternoon orientation ride with one of the regular cancer van drivers.
The vans are parked at the STARS office, 12120 Industry Blvd, Suite 36 in Jackson.
Amador STARS has 5 vans (2 vans for radiation treatment, 2 vans for chemo treatments and 1 van is wheelchair-accessible). Two vans go out Monday through Friday to take patients for radiation treatments.
Our regular drivers drive one day a week for radiation, either the 7:30a.m. van to Sacramento/Rancho Cordova or the
8:15 a.m. van to Lodi/Stockton . We do have regular drivers retire from time to time, so please let us know if you are
interested in a regular route driving once a week. The substitute drivers are on call as needed to relieve our
regular drivers for vacations, illness or scheduled days off. We also use substitute drivers to take patients to
chemotherapy treatments. Most drivers begin as a substitute driver.
We will contact you once your paperwork has been processed and you are approved to drive the vans. Thank you for considering
becoming a volunteer cancer van driver. We would not be able to offer these important services to our community if it wasn’t for
our wonderful volunteers.
