The 8th Annual Camp Out for Cancer took place on September 10, 2011 at the Plymouth Fairgrounds. Despite the hot, humid weather, hundreds of people attended this amazing community event. Cancer survivors and people of all ages participate in the 24-hour event to raise money and awareness of local cancer needs. Each team had at least one person walking throughout the event. Volunteers filled luminary bags with sand and candles, prepared meals for the hungry crowd, played games, and had their heads shaved in support of cancer victims – all leading up to Saturday night’s moving Illumination Ceremony. With thousands of lighted luminaries honoring cancer victims and survivors ringing the fairgrounds, the names of the honored were read aloud while the campers walked in silence.

We thank everyone for their generous support of this event, which allows Amador STARS to expand its services in Amador County. STARS is proud to help meet local cancer needs and assist in the search for a cure. Together, we can make a difference!

Mark your calendars now for the 2012 Camp Out for Cancer: September 8, 2012 at the Plymouth Fairgrounds!

Amador County Bunco for Breast Cancer is a fun event that raises funds for local women on the cancer journey. In 2011, about 250 people attended the event which featured a pink ribbon store, silent and live auctions, and a gourmet dessert buffet with coffee and tea. The event raised over $14,000 for local cancer needs. Thank you for your generosity!

This year our event returns to the Jackson Rancheria on Friday evening, April 27. We have some exciting new additions this year, including a "Roaring 20's" costume contest, an amazing raffle, and a 50/50 cash drawing. Registration early so you're not disappointed. The event often sells out!

If you would like to help on the organizing committee or donate a prize, please contact STARS at 223-1246.

Our 7 year total for bunco events is over $95,000. We are so grateful for the strong community support that allows us to provide important services to local cancer patients. In 2010, we provided over 500 van trips for chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and over 30 wigs to patients.

2011 Amador STARS Fair Window For several years, STARS volunteers have created a display window at the Amador County Fair. These windows are used to illustrate the annual fair theme, but more importantly spread the word about STARS services and events in the community.

In 2011, Jeannie Vodden and her team made it four first place victories in a row with their "Dancing with the Steers" theme!
