The 2008 Great Amador Head Shave kicked off June 10th with 8 brave souls shaving their heads
and three cutting ponytails for Locks of Love.
More than $500 in donations was collected for the Amador STARS. Executive Director Ginger Rolf says she was
happy with the participation. Stylists Kelly DeBoard, Laura Imperial, and Chandra Uselton donated their time at the event.
The Great Amador Head Shave continued at Camp Out for Cancer on September 20th. Our volunteer stylists cut 12 ponytails for Locks of Love and shaved 8 heads, with Don Brown raising $2,500 by cutting his hair!
If you participate, you'll be in good company. The Oakland A's Nick Swisher grew his straight brown hair to
11 inches long over a 10-month span, and partnered with Pantene's Beautiful Lengths to donate his hair to the Women's
Cancer Research Fund, which creates wigs for women living with cancer.
Swisher's grandmother, Betty, passed away after her battle with cancer in August 2005, which inspired Swisher to grow his hair long and donate it.
