SUPERHEROES RETURN TO THE 2016 CAMP OUT FOR CANCER!

Camp Out for Cancer is an inspiring community event presented each Fall by the Amador STARS. Teams build a "tent city" and take turns walking for 21 hours to raise funds and awareness for local cancer patients, survivors, and their families. This free event brings together people of all ages for fun, fellowship, food and entertainment by local musicians. Honor those who have battled cancer at our Survivor Celebration. Dedicate an illumination candle to someone who has been touched by cancer. Join a team and spread a message of hope...that together, we can eliminate cancer!

Mark your calendars now for our 2016 "Honoring Superheroes" event on September 10th at the Plymouth Fairgrounds.

Thank you for your continued support of Camp Out for Cancer and Amador STARS! We are 100% funded by the community. Except for 8% donated to research, all the profit will remain local to help our friends and neighbors on their cancer journey.

One of the most touching parts of Camp Out for Cancer is the sight of thousands of illumination candles lining the event. Each candle honors someone who has been touched by cancer or has lost their battle with cancer. Each bag bears a name and optional sentiment, and the candles are lit and the names are read at the Luminary Ceremony on Saturday evening during Camp Out for Cancer.

You can support local cancer needs and show your appreciation to a special person by purchasing a luminary candle for a suggested donation of $5.

For more information on the luminary ceremony, please call the Amador STARS office at (209) 267-1246.

Our Cancer Survivor Celebration takes place on Saturday morning and features a ceremonial lap around the Fairgrounds to recognize the strength and courage of all cancer survivors. Survivors enjoy beautiful decorations, live music and special giveaways including a commemorative t-shirt and a delicious complimentary brunch provided by Mike & Tina Boitano and their wonderful volunteer crew.

We hope that you will spread the word about this great event to cancer survivors that you know. The deadline to register is July 29.

If you would like more information, please call the Amador STARS office at (209) 267-1246.

The Great Head Shave takes place during our Camp Out for Cancer Opening Ceremony. Individuals bravely shave their heads for donations. Some cut their long hair and donate to Locks of Love. Many who participate have had friends or family who have gone through chemotherapy-related hair loss, and are inspired to shave their heads to raise awareness and acceptance of those who are on the cancer journey.

If you would like more information, please call the Amador STARS office at (209) 267-1246.

As a team member for Camp Out for Cancer, you join a group of campers consisting of family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc. There is no specific number of people needed for a team, as long as you can have at least one person walking at all times. You and your teammates can be as creative as you like with a team theme, costumes, campsite decorations, and even a mascot! You can work toward a team goal and participate in team fundraisers (car wash, bake sale, bingo, etc.). Illumination candle orders can also count in your team fundraising.

Remember that all funds raised will remain in Amador County, except for 8% that will be dedicated to cancer research. You can help in this venture by getting involved in the event. STARS is proud to help meet local cancer needs and assist in the search for a cure.

If you have not previously been involved in Camp Out for Cancer and would like more info, please call the Amador STARS office at (209) 267-1246.
